Problem setting up WSUS on Server 2012 R2 when not storing updates locally

hello.

there seems problem setup if choose option not store updates locally. when choose store updates on local path, goes fine in setup process. if decide not store updates locally apparently can do, problems follows:

  • the initial configuration stage (the link click on post-install steps after installing role) gives message configuring wsus server had fatal error
  • it opens regular wsus mmc console starts config wizard
  • if go through steps of wizard goes fine until section product classifications hangs hourglass forever.
  • if click on "all classifications" move things along, tells selection have made not valid , not saved.
  • you can finish wizard without more problems when synchronisation takes place no updates synchronised.
  • when go options section in mmc , go products , classifications appears open dialog box 2 tabs, , dialog box disappears , message box says "something attempted use has been removed database party. snap-in being refreshed fix issue."

at point server installation unusable. 

it appear there significant issue in using wsus server @ point makes unusable non-storage setting.

the base server set 2012r2 , has not had updates installed.

according description, you are deploying not to store updates locally. not recommended so, since may cause permission issues.

if want restore updates in network path, need share folder , modify related acl.

DFSR RPC replication errors 5014 1726 with large files over VPN
