2003 to 2008 R2 file cluster migration - shares fail to migrate due to missing client access point
hello,
i need migrate 2003 cluster 2008 r2, having difficulty doing so. have 2003 2 node disk , node majority cluster has 3 groups (2 individual file shares) , separate group quorum.
i'm trying migrate 2003 groups 2 node 2008 r2 cluster.
i've ran through cluster migration wizard http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff182337(v=ws.10).aspx), disk resources within group migrate, file shares don't.
in summary:
- ran 2008 r2 cluster run migration wizard , connected 2003 cluster
- once wizard completes, left the newly migrated group on 2008 r2 cluster offline
- took appropriate file share , disk resource group offline on 2003
- ensured iscsi disks migrated data showing correctly on 2008 r2 node (i'm using same drive letter 2003 node used moved disk)
- brough resources online. resources fail come online client access point missing, add new access point (http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/08/24/using-multiple-client-access-points-cap-in-a-windows-server-2008-r2-failover-cluster.aspx)
- restart 2008 r2 cluster node
- file share missing! file share has not been imported
i tried registry key export , import:
- on 2003 active cluster node export hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\shares
- take appropriate cluster resource , disk offline on 2003 node
- attach disk 2008 r2 cluster node
- added new disk cluster resource (again keeping same drive letter)
- merged 2003 registry key share information (note examining regedit shows newly imported key)
- restart server, share doesn't show in cluster administrator or share management tool on 2008 r2
1. possible transfer file shares using cluster migration wizard 2003 2008 r2? maybe i'm missing step client access point (or need transfer cluster resources on @ once).
2. should registry key export import work, when shares have been created under cluster administration console (as opposed windows explorer)?
thanks
hi,
currently there no such tool transfer sharing permissions new server or new cluster.
here article file share in cluster:
working file shares in windows server 2008 (r2) failover clusters
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/08/19/working-with-file-shares-in-windows-server-2008-r2-failover-clusters.aspx
article, share permission of windows server 2008 r2 failover cluster stored in hklm\cluster\resources\<guid>\parameters.
you can test export keys new cluster see if shares occur guid involved, may not work on new cluster.
