hello

i'm having trouble adding windows 2008 domain controller our 2003 domain. dcpromo does'nt allow me install dns server(grayed out) when try add sub domain. when try add server forest works fine.

all domain controllers in forrest run dns forest wide replication 

i message in dcpromoui log

soa query returned 9501 domain not host dns
dns_doesdomainhostdns returning false
hresult = 0x00000000
the domain not host host dns.

the solution first run dcpromo ,restart ,then install dns. dns service will detect ad innstalled on server , zones in active directory.
