Word 2010 freezes when opening a file from a share drive
issue:
in our office, 1 user opening document share folder experience microsoft word freezing.
- it doesn't display not responding message
- it doesn't lock , close out automatically
- it doesn't show behavior typical of issue, doesn't allow user input.
- can not type, select on menu bar, can not minimize, or close out without using task manager.
- you can move mouse around, appears frozen.
- everything else works, , nothing shows in event viewer.
- issue intermittent
i have been able duplicate different documents, multiple times, , variable can determine files open in compatibility mode.
for troubleshooting i've:
- repaired office
- deleted word data registry key
- deleted word options registry key
- deleted normal.dot file
- restarted computer
- disabled add-ons
not sure overlooking , appreciate , support.

how long word 2010 “freeze”? guess may cost time when open word 2010 in shared folder, think “freeze”. please wait few more minutes check if word 2010 can respond. maybe delay of response.
a similar case here:
then can download file local disk , open again. able launch word 2010 quickly, there may exist wrong in communication shared folder. may change path of shared folder. if doesn’t work, can try disable smbv2.
