Local printer redirection not working

setup:

domain controller (windows 2008 r2)

terminal server (windows 2008 r2)

clients (windows xp sp3, windows 7)

printers:

1. toshiba (networked)

2. hp (usb)

what have been done:

1. install toshiba drivers terminal server

2. enforce gpo disable use of easy print first

what have been noticed:

1. 1 client can print toshiba, while rest cannot.

2. when doing print test page, error "test page failed print" encountered.

any inputs why others can print?

regards,

sherwin

hi,

you have chosen local printer redirection without easy print, please check following items:

1.       whether error event log in windows 2008 r2 rds server. example, event id 1111, event id 1116 , etc. please refer following link:
event id 1111 — terminal services printer redirection
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/event-id-1111-terminal-services-printer-redirection.aspx
event id 1116 — terminal services printer redirection
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775123(ws.10).aspx

2.       you must install matching printer driver on terminal server , client computer.

3.       ensure spooler service running on both client pc , server.

you can use group policy settings printer redirection.

policy settings in node control printer configuration terminal services sessions.

the full path of node in group policy management console is:

computer configuration\policies\administrative templates\windows components\terminal services\terminal server\printer redirection
