Built-in Conexant mic suddenly stopped working after GWX appeared -- on multiple laptops

how supposed enjoy new windows 10 features if of sudden our working sound , mic went south appearance of gwx? have checked everywhere , tried everything. speaker has gone high def audio conexant smartaudio hd, , microphones show "not plugged in" no way try enable or test, or set @ default since grayed out. have tried uninstalling sound, games, webcam, shutting down , restarting -- no change. tried downloading driver manufacturer , installing , restarting system -- no change, tried system restore earlier point when know sound working -- no change, of sudden conexant smartaudio device isn't being recognized "built-in" laptop, looking plugged in.  laptop has own built-in mic worked great until yesterday after gwx, , has great chicony 2.0 usb webcam built-in has great mic (or @ least had great 1 until yesterday) , neither of these mics being detected built-in or plugged in, message in playback windows microphone not plugged in , rest greyed out! funny thing...all friends having same issue , no 1 can skype or anymore. no mic in programs, not team viewer. checked in microphone section of metro side pc settings , mic set "turned on" bunch of apps in there, mic can't detected plugged in application (desktop or metro).  windows 8.1 pro, toshiba l655d, toshiba c655d, dell 15r n5010, lenovo thinkpad t410, lenovo thinkpad x201, toshiba s875d-s7350.  went south @ same event "gwx appearing in tray, after working flawlessly mic enabled apps such skype, teamviewer, , more.  systems have been maxed out ram , have had no driver issues or other issues until now.  nothing new installed except seeing gwx icon.

please if have solution works when grayed out , can't enable, or set default communications device, or test, or except enable (which nothing except show device not plugged in message), or disable , still shows device not plugged in , there nothing plug in.

we're trying figure problem out right now. can run dxdiag, save file , e-mail me @ "mediaq @ microsoft dot com"? might need run other data-gathering well.

the short version conexant isn't going support 100% of hardware windows 10 you'll need use high definition audio driver. driver *should* work microphone, , need figuring out why doesn't.
