so windows server 2008 r2 guest os in windows server 2008 r2 hyper-v host server. windows server 2008 r2 has built-in hyper-v integration services component, , installed in os installation process. if add nic guest, can install nic drive automatically.
there 2 kind of network adapter in hyper-v: network adapter , legacy network adapter.
- the network adapter designed hyper-v , requires virtual machine driver included hyper-v integration services. type of networking adapter provides better performance legacy network adapter , recommended choice when can used. because type of virtual network adapter requires integration services in guest operating system, can used guest operating systems integration services available.
- the legacy network adapter emulates intel 21140-based pci fast ethernet adapter. type of network adapter provides networking capabilities 2 scenarios: when using guest operating systems integration services not available, , when network boot capabilities required. legacy network adapter uses driver available in operating systems, instead of hyper-v specific driver. legacy network adapter provides ability boot pre-boot execution environment (pxe).
which kind of network using?
virtual network manager (available hyper-v manager snap-in) offers 3 types of virtual networks can use define various networking topologies virtual machines , virtualization server.
external virtual networks
internal virtual networks
