Confused as to which server license to buy

i have windows sbs2008 running quite happily on vm, host windows server 2003 standard.

i'd want implement backup domain controller on physical server. additionally, i'd want move general file system away sbs2008 , on new server.

we have around 12 employees. of access file system. 3 or 4 of them use virtual pc's (all running xp pro) access main applications.

 

my question is, sort of windows server license need?
12 user cal license?

i thought i'd able windows server license few hundred pounds , away we go.
can windows 7 ultimate act bdc?

yes need user cal s 12 people. and you can refer above article adding server 2008/r2 existing sbs setup.

but recommend make full version of server 2008/r2 primery dc , make sbs setup bdc. once u setup dc in server 2008, fsmo ro transfer roles new dc dbc dc.

fro setup, cn best out of server 2008.
