Hyper-V Replication - Subnet Configuration Between Datacenters?

i'm designing dr solution in geographically separate datacenter use hyper-v 2012 r2 replication replicate several of our vms hyper-v cluster. vms run mix of linux , windows, windows servers being exchange, sharepoint, wsus, etc.

i have static ip assigned servers , vms, i.e. i'm not using static dhcp reservations.

i have ability extend private lan subnet (let's call 192.168.1.1) between 2 datacenters on public internet using firewall's vpn capability, i'm wondering if there recommended best/better practice this?

is okay extend subnet in fail-over scenario can power vms on in dr datacenter without manual intervention? or better idea configure servers static dhcp reservation, when come in dr datacenter can pull ip on unique subnet?

hello matt,

the answer yes hyper-v 2012 r2, feature available windows guest os'es in hyper-v 2012.

this works on synthetic network adapters, not legacy network adapters, , requires windows xp sp2/windows server 2003 sp2 , newer os'es running on virtual machine work. works linux virtual machines running latest linux distributions.

as a good practice complete failover tcp/ip configuration on primary virtual machine normal ip configuration. in way, if replica ever activated, replication reversed, , virtual machine failed primary, , correct ip address primary location can automatically put back.

hope help.
