Edition and licensing requirements for stand-alone web server

i wanted set new stand-alone web server, realize rare use windows server it's undocumented.  appropriate edition?  can done essentials (cheaper) or require standard?  single processor machine no virtualization.

if standard edition required, require cals?  need is:

-- administer server rdp (does require user cal?)

-- files on new server server stand-alone web server (windows 2008), , files on other server new one.  (does require device cal -- not sure -- or 1 set of 5 user cals cover it?)

is sort of information provided anywhere?
