Failover Cluster - Running several Roles ( File Print ) under one logical Name
hi,
we want replace current physical 2 node cluster running under w2003 1 running under w2008r2 - 2 node
currentsetup : ( under w2003 )
clusternode 1 = 192.168.0.80
clusternode 2 = 192.168.0.90
virtual cluster = 192.168.0.100 ( lets call clusterold )
this cluster running several different services file , print, available under virtual cluster dns name , ip adress 192.168.0.100
now want exchange old cluster new 2008 r2 one.
future setup : ( under w2008r2 )
clusternode 1 = 192.168.0.180
clusternode 2 = 192.168.0.190
virtual cluster = 192.168.0.200 ( lets call clusternew )
as understand it, if want create file services clustered, have "setup" new service or application, again create "virtual" a server called instance :
clusternodefs = 192.168.0.201 ( file services )
clusternodeps = 192.168.0.202 ( print services )
these have there own computer account , show under services , applications. far good, working fine.
here questions :
1) why cluster need on ip adress - in case 192.168.0.200 - if clients serviced under virtual name eg. clusternodefs ( 192.168.0.201 ) ?
2) need services available under 1 ip adress old cluster did ( 192.168.0.100 - old cluster switched off ) - because not want change cluster name itself, because require configs - possible ? - understand, on conzept has changed no ?
thanks in advance
regards,
gerhard
1) strictly managing cluster.
2) part no...you need @ least 2 ip addresses , 2 network names. technically have both file , print services in single application group, though recommended keep these workloads separated. need ip address , network name cluster, call "clusternew" , call single application group "clusterold" maintain consistency between old , new clusters.
your current configuration goes against best practices clustering. microsoft enforces bit more in 2008 don't let dump 1 big ugly group. cluster core resources remain separated, can still tecnically lump applications single group
hope helps.
