Under what circumstances is VMSMP Error 25 logged?

i have simple situation generates error single vm running:

host: quadproc 2008 r2 + hyper-v

single guest sbs 2003 r2. can ignore since totally idle. have verified has mac address different hardware.

i have created single virtual network (virtualnet): "external" , connects hardware gbe controller. "network connections" shows  two: local area connection enabled h/w gbe controller , local area connection 3 ms virt net switch

all os's current w.r.t. updates. have latest software ethernet card.

from second machine, ts host , large file copies (think msdn iso images) 3rd machine on 1g/100mb ethernet. pair of vsmp 25 errors mac address gets moved 1 port , back. coincident loss of ts connectivity (mstsc needs reconnect) , file copy aborted.

grovelling registry, find 2 ports mac address flips between virtualnet_internalport , virtualnet_externalport.

i'm stuck. cannot reliably copy these files.

does (msft?) have idea this?

thanks, vincent. aware of thread.

i, too, seem victim of bad switch; moving every device 1g port makes problem appear go away.

however, link between event log entry , fact have bad hardware interactions is, least, obscure. google, er, bing "vmsmp 25" , see how many people trying unnatural acts things work.

in order avoid waving chicken parts @ moon @ midnight , praying, ms might want try put out documentation stating under circumstances event log entry xyzzy gets generated customers have chance @ debugging our installations.

in case, simple inspection of code should reveal these circumstances. publishing world of good.
