RepAdmin /showutdvec objects

i'm seeing unnamed objects listed showutdvec command, , "(retired)".  think replication working, i'm not seeing errors or problems.  these old dc objects not demoted properly?

repadmin.exe /showutdvec dc1 "dc=domain,dc=com"

caching guids.

if these not needed, can safely cleanup aren't there?

thanks!

not sure mean "... command on 3 different domains shows 7 objects guid, 3 happen have 3 demoted ...". in case didnt know, command used idea of how upto date particular partition on dc regards other replicas. each dc's ntds.dit made of several partitions. @ least include configuration, schema , domain partition.

repadmin.exe /showutdvec dc1 "dc=domain,dc=com"
note above have bolded partition checking see here. dc1 provide argument dc interested in checking see how date is.

default-first-site-name\dc3         @ usn    953190 @ time 2010-10-02 07:30:53

above line saying dc1 aware of originating changes occurred directly on dc3 (belonging default-first-site-name site) usn 953190. update 953190 happened @ 2010-10-02 07:30:53. if dc3 has done originating changes since then, chances dc1 hasnt received them yet. you'd know if dc3 has done more changes on "dc=domain,dc=com" partition running /showutdvec command above replacing dc1 dc3 see view of own partition (which give details of , originating changes received others).

the /showutdvec returns data of each entry guid. returning invocationid. invocationid guid of ntds.dit unique each dc. changes when server restored. hence "retired" entries. when cant resolve sensible dc (that owns ntds.dit) merely shows guid.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc228406(v=prot.13).aspx has details of utdv vector (showutdvec)

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brettsh/archive/2006/02/09/528708.aspx has details of repadmin.exe behaviour of translating invocationid.

see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772726(ws.10).aspx for how ad replication works explains propagation dampenng.

repadmin.exe in vista , above best. repadmin /?:showutdvec more details. else see http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=c6054092-ee1e-4b57-b175-5aabde591c5f&displaylang=en&tm

its find admins house keeping in ad :). dont run admins interest. afaik dont think can delete these entries because ad needs decide or not replicate (i.e. propagation dampening)

was trying brief previously. hope information helps. dont hang out here often. please excuse if further replies delayed. moderators or mvps sure.
