active directory doesn't start.
hi everybody,
backgorund: single forest single domain windows 2003. 20 domain controllers, of them gc , there 2 dns servers integrated zone in ad.
due scheduled cpd shutdown, systems have been powered off. domain controllers of domain have benn shtdown 1 located in branch office it's not dns server.
once power supply has been restores, i've powered on pdc emulator , ad didn't start in anyway, dns isn't working zone integrated. doesn't understand.
the pdc emulator 1 of 2 dns servers , pointing itself, ad should starts properly, hasn't been case. zone didn't start , if did , nslookup got timeout.
if went directory event viewer, see events likes of:
i've had set dc of th branch office (seconday dns server ad dns zone) primary server pdc emulator, reboot server , after pdc log on domain couldn't start dns server. once logged on domain, changed primary dns server point , worked out.
any explanation behavior?.
thank you.
hi,
when dc starts, ds startup process performs initial synchronization prevent unexpected results of disk full or possible database corruption, etc. furthermore, dc attempts resolve source replica ip address 4 times (netbios name, guid, fqdn, netbios name again) every directory partition when starts up. dns service not start until initial synchronization of directory completed. however, since other dc/dns servers not available, cannot finish initial synchronization process , event 2087, 2088 may logged well.
therefore, if works after dcs start, events can ignored.

troubleshooting active directory replication failures occur because of dns lookup failures, event id 2087, or event id 2088
