Invalid root in registry key
hello virtual desk...
i have deployed legal notice script on domain controller.
it worked ok, sent each workstation , after
tweaking, worked, members of administrator group.
here error message returned after non administrator group user
1) ctrl_alt+del; 2) sees message; 3) logs in:
error: //domain.local\sysvol\domain.local\policies\{somestuff}
\user scripts\logon\legalnotice.vbs
line: 36 (it comment line)
char: 1
error: invalid root in registry key "hklm\software|microsoft\windows\
currentversion\policies\system\legalnoticecaption".
code: 80070005 (access denied)
source: wshshell.regwrite
i submitted question wrong forum, told scripts change files
in system directory or hklm registry hive must placed in computer configuration.
i had in user configuration localsystem account , non administrator
not able change hklm hive due insufficient rights.
he said -or must explicity assign write rights users.
ok...
this has , like:
console root
...local computer policy
......computer configuration
.........windows settings
............scripts
...............startup
...............legalnotice.vbs (removed after tip)
......user configuration
.........windows settings
............scripts
...............startup
...............legalnotice.vbs (removed after tip)
...active dirctory users & computers [domain controller.mydomain.local]
......mydomain (right click properties), group policy tab, gpo: legalnotice, edit
...legalnotice[domain controller.mydomain.local] policy
......computer configuration
.........windows settings
............scripts
...............startup
...............legalnotice.vbs (***its here***)
......user configuration
.........windows settings
............scripts
...............startup
...............(vbs not there)
if me appreciate it.
ps if not right forum, clue me in please...
thanks
hi,
thanks reply.
yes, rsop.msc shows logon script applied comes default domain policy, please logon domain controller administrator , open default domain policy remove logon script configuration. after that, please test issue again. may need wait while before group policy refreshed.
as output issue, notice missed backslash mark between “:” , “g”. should “gpresult /v >c:\gpresult.txt”
for reference, may take @ following article:
Windows Server > Group Policy
