Half of DHCP subnet cannot connect to router/default gateway
hi,
it may sound weird have set dhcp server range 192.168.30.1/23 - 192.168.31.254/23. however, newer clients can't ping default gateway 30.1 - 30.254. when set client reservation ip range x.x.31.1 - x.x.31.254, can ping default gateway. in addition, older reserved clients has reserved ip between x.x.30.1 - x.x.30.254 can ping default gateway. confused. please me.
here's configuration:
scope: 192.168.30.0
ip range: 192.168.30.1 192.168.31.254
subnet: 255.255.254.0
exclusions: 192.168.30.1 192.168.31.200
router: 192.168.30.1
dns servers: 192.168.30.10, 192.168.30.3, 8.8.8.8
hi peter,
if both clients can ping dhcp server - picked random local subnet host pick on (there no cryptic reason it), i'm quite issue gateway device/host itself.
if can ping any/every other client on same subnet gateway unresponsive particular sub-range, points bad subnet mask on gateway device.
what result in icmp (i.e. ping, tracert etc.) traffic correctly sent client gateway device, nothing returned gateway device performs subnet masking , decides client indeed not on interfaces network.
i'd stop looking @ clients or dhcp scope , focus exclusively on gateway configuration.
cheers,
lain
