WSUS database - local or remote SQL

we licensed run sql processor , can have unlimited connections/users.

i can setup wsus server local install of sql in half day, however, management wants me use remote sql server instance, means lots of politics, red tape, , long wait.

does know of document describes pros , cons of using wsus remote sql type configuration?

i have read deploy, step step, operations, etc., guides, doesn't go detail this.

also, no expert microsoft licesning, , verify detail.

if install wsus local sql database in production, violating our microsoft licensing?

in fact, i've explored question in couple of webcasts:

the short answers these:

  • if have enterprise database server (cluster), there can significant advantages offloading database administration , maintenance requirements qualified (certified?) database administrator.
  • if you're managing large number of clients (>3000), or wsus server share iis other websites/webservices, or wsus server being configured on virtual machine, there significant performance advantages separating database services web , file services.
if install wsus local sql database in production, violating our microsoft licensing?

if sql server licensed per-processor licensing, no further licensing costs required implement wsus (except, perhaps, windows server license of wsus server itself).

one presumes, in scenario, desktop machines possess windows server cals, requirement connect windows server hosts wsus services.

Suspicious event log Event ID: 4905

DCOM received error "2147746132" from...
