Server 2012 R2 NIC Team - Physical Adapters Removed
this hypothetical question....
if windows server 2012 r2 configured native nic team consisting of ports , adapters either pcie cards in rack-mount server or mezzanine cards in blade , physical adapter fails, team dissolve because none of adapters available or remain configured , in failed state?
i'm assessing recovery scenario physical adapter failure hence question.
my assumption native nic team remain configured it's mac address , ip configuration unscathed, in failed state and install a replacement physical adapter , add new adapter ports team.

hi richard,
the nic teaming feature, known load balancing , failover (lbfo), provides 2 basic sets of algorithms teaming.
- switch-dependent modes. requires switch participate in teaming process. typically requires network adapters in team connected same switch.
- switch-independent modes. not require switch participate in teaming process. although not required, team network adapters can connected different switches.
both modes provide bandwidth aggregation , traffic failover if network adapter failure or network disconnection occurs. however, in cases switch-independent teaming provides traffic failover switch failure.
