Very Simple Home Directory Path Question

by home directory path do?  have never used home directory path or drive new hp scanners can pull the homedirectory path and save it.  use feature unsure if issues arise.

i've seen others have problems setting drive connect, extreamly slow logon when share not available.  happen if set path?

i've tried find information myself far can find how set it, how mass set/change it, or how change/use vbs.  nothing has told me why it's used.

home directory going drive mapped users when login.  a common reason use users can store important information there in consistent place , network admins up.

another common use use folder redirection home directory.

in adddition methods mentioned in technet article can use tool admodify (gui) or adfind/admod (command line).
