Raid 5 Configuration - Windows Server 2008 R2
recently raid 5 80gb dard drives filled data. expansion within troops has demanded more storage.
what is best safe process increase drives 80gb higher without loosing data? hoping simple change in configuration work. after looking @ raid 5 setup prior, noticed this:
1 = 68+gb allocated (128mb) unallocated
2 = 68+gb allocated (128mb) unallocated
3 = 68+gb allocated
when place new drive in (3) displays full size, naturally not synch 1-2. start process of creating raid 5 volume, , drives have add 128mb drives.
confused... :-(
thank you.

1) if have windows software built-in raid5 cannot increase parity raid on-the-fly. there's set of commercial tools allowing so. please see:

2) need have disks of same size when doing raid5/6 (technically ok use bigger disks capacity calculated using smallest 1 disks used in raid set).
personally i'd move data backup destination (good idea either way) , re-create parity raid scratch.
good luck!
