Quistion from beginner for VMs.

i played hyper-v before on windows 8 machine , going buy windows 2012 server standard edition small company , latter on install hyper-v servers on replace 2 old windows 2k3 servers.

i know there 2 hyper-v licenses come standard edition. not understand how many windows servers have - 2 or three?

in other words can install dc, dns, , dhcp on host , setup 2 virtual servers , install file server on 1 of them , exchange on other. how many network cards should have?

any explanation , suggestion appreciated. have tight budget.

if install other roles/services on host, lose 1 of vm instances.  should run hyper-v role on server. other roles should in vms.

windows server 2012 standard comes 1 server license (that installed on hardware) which allows 2 "free" windows server instances run virtual machines, as long not install other roles on host.

you can purchase additional windows server licenses , install them vms if need create more windows server vms.

you should have @ least 2 network cards, 1 host (a management card) , @ least 1 vms.  multiple vms can use single nic.
