Options for creating a corporate mapped drive across multiple sites
hi all,
i need help, not long ago asked manager if revisit our current file server set , replace new , more efficient setup. proposal agreed had other server upgrades slotted nicely in project.
so idea between 6 geographical sites connected via 50 100 mbit mpls connections have 1 file server in each local office , 1 in datacentre fore backup purpose. use dfsn keep easy , simple , dfsr give staff local access corporate mapped drive z:\.
then learned dfsr not support file locking potential loosing information if 2 members of staff edit same file. looked @ options peerlock comes price tag or branchcache cant because run windows 7 pro.
so bit out of ideas now. if have 1 file server in datacenter + replica , use z: drive make heavier use of mpls lines. how others do? should use sharepoint? not cheap either , replicate around? other wan optimisation solution?
hi,
as said, if file edit on more 1 folder target @ same time, conflict occur - newer file (saved later) win conflict , replicated other folder targets. may cause file lose if earlier version needed (because overwritten replication).
please noticed file not deleted - moved hidden folder named "conflictanddeleted" while until folder exceed quota limitation.
so here question: happen on environment, users keep editing same file , both versions needed? if so, dfs/dfsr may not function looking for.
and network load question, dfsr default relate change parts - block level replication unless data large or modified quickly, not affect lot of network performance - can set bandwidth schedule of dfsr replication prevent using network bandwidth during working hours.
for peerlock i've heard locking files editing multiple users did not familiar tool. detailed information sharepoint can post question sharepoint forum:
