2008 R2 Group policy: roaming network printers

on server 2008 r2, how create printers roam roaming user profile?

i've been using 2008 r2 4 years, , virtually network printers i've created in computers section of group policy. works expect: printers associated specific computers , not roam.

,

now need set specific devices roam users same settings follow them anywhere, it's not working way expect.

gpo -> edit

 user configuration
- control panel settings
- - tcp/ip printer
- - - 10.0.123.45
- - - - general
- - - - - action: create
- - - - - properties:
- - - - - - ip address: 10.0.123.45
- - - - - - local name: copier (roaming)
- - - - - - shared printer path: \\prnserv\copier
- - - - - - set default: true
- - - - - - if local printer not present: false
- - - - - - location: building a
- - - - - port settings:
- - - - - - protocol: tcp/ip (raw)
- - - - - - port: 9100
- - - - - - snmp status enabled: false
- - - - common
- - - - - options
- - - - - - stop processing if error: no
- - - - - - run in logged in user's security context: no
- - - - - - remove item when not applied: no
- - - - - - apply once , don't reapply: yes

all looks correct, , yet doesn't work.

,

at first, seems work: when user logs on first test machine, printer installs , set default printer.

but when go second machine, not appear in devices , printers.

for first test machine, if else logs on, show printer in devices , printers, though supposed available other account.

,

what's wrong, , need correct?

is users section of gpo correct place make printers roam users?

i assume should using "apply once , don't reapply", because whole point of retain user printing preferences move 1 computer next. don't want gpo repeatedly reapplying every time log on, , gpo resetting printing preferences of account.

hi dale,

a gpo divided 2 nodes: computer configuration & user configuration. if deploy printers under user configuration, printers should follow users.

here want confirm if have disabled following setting:
computer configuration\policies\administrative templates\printers : point , print restrictions

this setting allow clients install drivers print server without prompting admin credentials.

regarding setting, following article can referred more information.

point , print restrictions policies ignored in windows vista sp2, windows server 2008 sp2, , later windows operating systems

besides, regarding deploying printers group policy preferences, following blog can referred reference.
