Error Starting Certificate Authority after upgrading in place from Server 2003 Enterprise (32 bit) to Server 2008 Enterprise (32 bit).

hope place seek active directory certificate services.  upgraded in place issuing ca in our lab 2003 2008 , upgrade of os successful ca service not start. 

the error is:

error 0xc8000222 (ese: -546)

more info.  did stop ca service prior doing upgrade.

answering own question hopes else. 

the problem has logs certificate database.  there sort of format conflict after upgrading 2008.

to around error, , certificate authority service start, remove logs from c:\windows\system32\certlog directory should .edb database file lives, leave database file there

this worked on 3 of 4 of our ca servers, other 1 had database went down in dirty state, had use eseutil utility fix database.

note: there no eseutil utility on ca servers, had copy our database exchange server in our test lab, run eseutil /mh see status is, may dirty or clean, ran eseutil / p (p repair, go figure know right) anyway fixed database, copied on ca , started service

hope helps of out, have case opened microsoft technical support on issue , update thread feedback once (it has been week already)

DFSR RPC replication errors 5014 1726 with large files over VPN
