Indexing options parity between different versions of Windows and different areas of UI

in different areas of ui can see quite different settings regarding indexing. unfortunately there's no offisial documentation on how differ 1 another. here list of settings in question , assumptions. there questions can't answer to.

  1. “index drive faster searching”. setting appears on “general” tab of logical drive (volume) properties. can see on windows vista, windows server 2008 , earlier windows versions. assumption setting affects old-style idexing service-based search has effect on modern windows search. question how manage setting on windows 7 , windows server 2008 r2 (in case install indexing service explicitly)? problem last generation of windows not show option used before.
  2. “allow files on drive have contents indexed in addition file properties”. in windows 7 , windows server 2008 r2 setting has replaced previous 1 , located on “general” tab of volume properties. assumption setting only affects windows search-based indexing and does not affect whether or not drive indexed @ all. instead setting controls how , indexed. question whether setting available somewhere in windows vista , windows server 2008 in case install windows search v4 (manually or part of sp2).
  3. “enable indexing on volume”. this setting located on “advanced” tab of volume propertis. tab available when launch properties box “share , storage management” console. not available when launch properties box “disk management” console, , can confusing. assumption setting affects windows search-based indexing , has no effect on old-style idexing service-based search. main question how related windows search indexing settings found @ control pannel applet (that can launched "c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe" c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll,control_rundll c:\windows\system32\srchadmin.dll). question why “advanced” tab unavailable when launch volume properties “disk management” console.

please tell whether assumptions correct , answer above questions possible. thansk in advance.
