RRAS - Not starting - Event ID 20103 - Possible Solution

this not question how able resolve problem rras not being able start.

i had rras (using nat only) running fine.  stopped working.  had no idea had happened.  event log showed event id 20103 - unable load c:\windows\system32\iprtrmgr.dll.  tried of following solutions no avail.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299013/en-us

resetting tcp ip using netsh: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

i tried removing ipv6 registry: hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\remoteaccess\routermanagers\ipv6

nothing work.  broke out process monitor , checked see registry calls being made , ones unsuccessfull.  found pid of svchost loads iprtrmgr.dll.  working way bottom up, traced of entries with pid.  at 1 point found a success call was made registry entry of hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\remoteaccess\routingtablemanager\instance 00000\addressfamily 00002, but name_not_found registry entry of hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\remoteaccess\routingtablemanager\instance 00000\addressfamily 00023.

i checked registry , noticed missing addressfamily 00023 entry.  created virtual machine of windows 2008 r2, loaded rras , compared 2 registries.  addressfamily 00023 entry in vm guest.  copied registry key on machine and was able get rras started.

hopefully others having same problem.
