Serving DHCP to different network segments

i've got flat network , 1 dhcp server.  i need segment traffic coming 1 floor of building gets special dhcp scope options.

i assume i'll need have our network guy create vlan floor of building how setup dhcp server sends special options traffic single floor? simple sticking second nic in server , mapping subnet of second vlan? have create second scope?

thanks.

hello mhashemi,

yes, on right track.  when dhcp server has more 1 scope defined, important server know subnet packet coming from.  since dhcp server sitting behind router , not on same subnet of clients, need dhcp relay agent fill in "relay ip address field" in dhcp header know subnet packet came from.  if packet not contain info, service request using scope defined server's nic connected to, if there scope.

therefore, network administrator needs configure dhcp relay agent on router connected client's subnets.  provide network admin ip address of dhcp server.

you had mentioned "flat network".  mean 1 vlan?  not dhcp.
