Disk is not showing up
hi all,
i have couple of new dell servers need configure disks , these servers have windows server 2012 installed on it. let me tell 1 server .
one server has 6 disks attached each of 10k speed. when start server 1 disk 600gb on os installed , other disks not showing in server . went bios settings configure disks creating virtual disks on servers . later created physical volumes virtual disks in windowsserver .then showed 5disks 500gb space . far .
but see 5 disks 600gb space, there 1 disk missing .when go bios see "virtual disk 0: (20gb) online " missing disk , other disks showing "virtual disk 1: (600gb) online" , why showing 20gb disk 0 unable understand. showing 20gb in storage pools of servermanager of windowsserver .i know storagepool shows unallocated space ,but why showing 20gb allocated space when has 600gb.
so, have done here deleted virtual drive reconfigure it. unfortunately entire os has gone after removing virtual disk.
now please suggest me whether things have done correctly or not. if reinstall os on servers missing disk configured correctly
i bi developer , first time configure servers. please forgive me in case have done mistakes :)
how did configure raid?
you have 6 disks, did configure raid this:
disk #1 , disk # 2 = raid 1 (mirror disk)
disk #3, disk#4, disk#5 disk #6 = raid 5 (striping parity)
or how did design raid?
if not one, configure raid ask them detail of configuration.
and on example above, if raid 1 configured won't show on windows configuration. though have 6 disks, show 5 disks.
because other disk mirrored, therefore not appear on windows.
note: careful though reconfigure raid, once reconfigured lost everything. need start scratch.
every second counts..make use of it.
