WMI fails with IP, but works with hostname

i having issue wmi throws "rpc server unavailable" message when connecting ip address.  however, hostname of same server connects fine.  using following workflow test connection:

1) start -> run -> "wbemtest"

2) click connect

3) enter "\\ip_address\root\default" appropriate ip address

4) enter appropriate credentials

5) click "connect"

this when error shows up.  connecting server in same network , there no internal firewall/security in place knowledge.  have had no issues other servers in network, it's 1 that's giving me trouble.

i have not seen issue often, it's not first time.  have had couple other clients i've run issue , never found solution.  have seen little information regarding online.

the issue had corrected reverse dns records.  in our case, had multiple rdns records same ip, causing problem intermittent.  fixes well.
