Windows Storage Server 2008 Client Connector - unable to uninstall

i have windows storage server 2008 running , the client connector installed on xp sp3 machine.  i'm trying uninstall connector since machine being decomissioned, when try add/remove programs, error:

"fatal error during installation" , that's all.

when try reinstall connector on existing install, error:

"cannot connect computer server because either software installation in progress, or, computer has restart pending.  either complete installation process, or, restart computer , try connect again."

i've been on web install in progress error.  found couple site, made registry changes, registry entries didn't exist according postings/sites , i'm stuck.  can't install.  can't uninstall.

can me resolve crazy problem?

(go figure)...decided on random search - first posting found had solution.  here if has/had problem:

update/solution: for of experiencing issue. here solution found worked me:

application can set pending reboot flag in operating system through registry key.  reboot not clear flag.  setup detecting.

work around pending reboot issue:
1. open regedit
2. find key "hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\session manager"
3. rename "pendingfilerenameoperations" value "pendingfilerenameoperations2"

Suspicious event log Event ID: 4905

DCOM received error "2147746132" from...
