Adding file server resource manager on a running file server

hi, ive taken on responsibility for our fileservers.

the server running server 2008r2 , set discquota limiting users 1gb. fine far.

however, server used place our users share common files among each other. making discquota confusing , annoying users, having share ownership of files 3gb of pictures or whatever saved in same folder.

and question. ive read file server resource manager, , seems pretty straight forward install , set quotas on folders instead of users.

but how effect current discquota? still in effect, or settings nulled when install file server manager?

witch quota takes priority? lets user has 1gb of space according discquota. create folder , set quota on 5gb in file server manager. how user able save there?  1 or 5gb?

hi,

windows server 2008 r2 supports 2 mutually exclusive methods setting quotas on amount of file system resources user can use—disk quotas or directory quotas. disk quotas applied specific users , limit amount of disk space user can use on particular volume. directory quotas applied users , limit amount of disk space users can use in particular folder , subfolders.

test on pc , find there no priority between 2 quotas, depends on quota smaller. user can save 1 gb files in folder.
