Printers on Windows Server 2003
let me start off saying not network administrator.... being said, although have background computers not means know server administration. hence, problems trying figure out based on limited knowledge. , no not have "real" in-house network support person.
i working windows server 2003 connected to a windows xp pc.
issue #1: i installed printer on network ip 10.192.100.38 , able connect , print no problem. however, when printer shows in "add printer" dialogue box shows up as http://10.192.100.38:5358/device service , want change name/address logical so people want connect can understand, i.e. kyocera fs-c2126mfp accounts payable. i can share printer and show under network location, i.e. kyocera fs-c2126mfp on office assistant, typical setup network printer? there way change network name without being shared through pc , still have people able print it? question even make sense?
issue #2: can't delete of "old" network printers on server though signed in administrator. these printers no longer exist in our inventory , don't need show in network list. error tells me don't have sufficient privileges. how around this? suggestions can't technical since said, i'm not network administrator , don't know way around server except basic things.
i think that's need now. suggestions appreciated. thank you.
hi
#1:
-install on server, name correctly , click share it.
-on xp, naviguate in windows explorer; \\server_name, , select correct printer.
be adviced printer list can populated other computer around have pritner shared, thats why don't thrust if server in workgroup.
#2:
-do see old document in error in printqueue ? if printer in error must of times can deleted while document in there. maybe provide simple printscreen of error , try delete, in administrator can delete printer usually.
