Metric for networks in WS2012 Hyper-V cluster
hi,
has metric assignment scheme/algorithm changed 2008 r2 2012? when create hyper-v cluster in 2012, default metrics numbers 30384, 39984, 39841 networks have cluster communication allowed (role 1) , 70384, 79840, 79984 networks role 0.
these used in 4-digit numbers 2008 r2 , advised give live migration/csv networks metric value <1000. threshold autoassignment in 2012? still recommended adjust metric values various networks lm/csv/iscsi/management/guest etc?
cluster assign metrics such cluster trafic prefer
- private network prefered on public network
- rdma capable nic prefered ove non-rdma
- rss capable nic prefered on non-rss capable
- faster nic prefered on slower nic
if 2 nics in same category according grouping above clsuter assign metrics such last 4 bits different. in case cluster network fault tolerant miniport (netft.sys) load balance different tcp connections between physical networks different lowest 4 bits while attempting keep each tcp connection on 1 netwrork.
cluster attempt automatically detect iscsi networks , mark them not used cluster @ all.
in w2k8r2 lm traffic used go on 2nd priority private network. i'll check , update thread if things have changed in w2012.
csv in w2012 uses multichannel (http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/technet+radio/technet-radio-smb-multi-channel-basics-for-windows-server-2012-and-smb-30; http://blogs.technet.com/b/josebda/archive/2012/11/12/windows-server-2012-file-server-tip-use-multiple-subnets-when-deploying-smb-multichannel-in-a-cluster.aspx) , attempts stay on private networks east-west traffic , stays on public networks north-south traffic. done setting apropriate mutichannel information on srv , not rely on metrics described above. smb multichannel has own way prioritize channels similar 1 above. can tell csv use both private , public networks east-west traffic setting custer property "cluster /prop useclientaccessnetworksforsharedvolumes=1".
