Question about replacing 2003 DC with 2012

i have 2 2003 domain controllers , have built 2 2012 domain controllers.  replication has happened time , transferred roles new servers.  the think left dcpromo demote.  we had our esxi host go down held both 2003 dc on them other night , wasnt worried because 2 2012 servers up.  however nothing worked nobody login anything.  so im thinking 2012 servers havent been done correctly or havent run dcpromo?? scared demote now

first  could check replication between dc's? run "repadmin /replsum" , check fsmo holder,run "netdom query fsmo".

Suspicious event log Event ID: 4905

DCOM received error "2147746132" from...
