Windows Server 2003 and a Static Routed IP address
hey guys,
i can't find online specific issue. without going much, basic have 2003 server /29 [3 usable ip's] , 1300 ip addresses [not contiguous] being static routed [on network gear] base ip , added server. on linux , on 2008 r2, valid netmask 255.255.255.255 on 2003 it gives error saying bits set 1. troubleshooting set 255.255.255.254 , said bits set 0. netmask should using make 2003 take single static routed ip address?
255.255.255.0 doesn't error adversely effect network connection of server within same network.
hi,
based on experience, seems longest mask supported 255.255.255.252 or /30. because 2 host addresses reserved special purpose within given network. bits within host id set 1 used broadcast address send packet hosts on network. bits in host id set 0 reserved denote ip network id.
did have dhcp server on network? if yes, maybe can use dhcp exclusion exclude single ip address being assigned automatically dhcp client computers. or can assign reservation on dhcp server client requires consistent ip address don’t need assign static ip address manually.
