DHCP Audit Log - Clarification needed
dear all
we receive lot of "dns update failed" errors in our dhcp logs on our windows server 2012 r2 dhcp server. errors happen linux clients, not of them.
the log entries this:
31,11/05/15,00:00:19,dns update failed,172.16.18.24,ch10lt535.domain.intra,,,0,6,,,aaebqymydrok2ocbzcvsiigwc5c7ypbah7c6wv1sj4lavvw=,,,,,,2
the last value seems value "dnsregerror". code 2 @ end of entry mean?
i cannot find documentation on web entry named "dnsregerror".
maybe of knows error means.
thanks help
hi rene,
looking log entries, didn't figure out why dns update failed. may helpful if provide more detailed information event log in event viewer>customer views>server roles>dhcp server. check event log on the dns server.
as issue dhcp failed update dns records clients, may check the following basic configurations.
check if client's ip configurations correct (do ipconfig/all), windows clients, need check "register connection's addresses in dns", maybe linux clients need to do the similar configuration (i'm not familiar linux).
on dhcp server, need check "enable dns dynamic updates according settings below>always dynamically update dns records".
if dns zone configured secure dynamic, need configure credential dhcp server or add dhcp server dnsupdateproxy group.
besides, if after checking basic settings still couldn't work, may use network monitor perform network traffic capture further troubleshooting.
network monitor download:
