MSDTC Static Port / Port Assignment
hello,
i have windows 2008 r2 servers located in dmz running msdtc , making calls sql 2008 (windows 2008 r2) server on internal network.
i understand new dynamic rpc port range for windows 2008 49152-65535.
i've read can assign static port msdtc service (using servertcpport key value) in lieu of opening dynamic rpc port range (or subset thereof) on dmz firewall.
what the drawbacks (if any) of assigning msdtc static port? can (how does) msdtc handle multiple connections if assigned single static port?
thank you
frank
