Add additional IPs to Windows 2008 R2 TCP/IP properties

(using vmware vms fencing) in effort make windows vm 'know' has second ip address (the external ip), adding external ip address tcp/ip properties (ip address list). in windows 2003, able no issue. then, example, using browser on vm, external ip address used access applications on same vm. done various 'in house' application reasons.

however, in windows 2008 r2, when adding external ip address tcp/ip properties, os complain duplicate ip address. assume because windows 2008 r2 seeing virtual router (for fencing) ip address (which external ip)....at least mac address indicates this

has found way configure windows 2008 r2 allow 'duplicate ip' address scenario?

base on knowledge there few types virtual network in vmware vms connect vms real external network difference ways. since vm product not supported forum, we’d suggest might post question vmware forum further suggestions, so can qualified pool of respondents.
