Windows Server 2008 R2 Setup Help - I'm a big beginner
i got hands on bunch of brand new server's pretty free (the company working @ when belly under , never setup new server got all).
i (maybe still if job) marketing guy math degree wants setup awesome private cloud.
so yea, payed $2000 16 nodes (blade server, each node has 32gig memory, 1x xeon e3 (3.2ghz), ipmi, 2x gigabyte ports, 2x sata hdd's (sadly no hdd's came it), ), , 1 4u workstation (what used @ work run applications, pretty powerful workstation 32gig ram, 2x intel 2620's, 6805 raid controller, 2x gigabyte ports , ipmi port), thought workstation great "host" or something.
so, pretty experience have websites, , understanding of domains , directories , stuff pretty basic, guy collected stats on hundred's/thousands of sites , crunched numbers , put them in fancy document corporate.
i want set wicked private cloud, buddy of mine university doing work couple of local hospital's here, prodigy of our senior class, , hes doing of amazing mathematics have ever seen (the algorithm's literally correct themselves), unfortunately pay absolutely ridiculous amounts application hosting need ton of computational power. looking let them use stuff free, or @ least alot of resources (hoping can job them in process, work save countless lives, it's cool me either way), kind of idea think of job there, pretty every mathematician in toronto is lined slot.
the thing is, have no idea how whole thing setup. converted of data on workstation vhd , installed windows 2008 r2, put hyper-v role on it, , created windows 7 vm , migrated data onto it, i haven't really done else server, tried 5 times on past week (uninstalling reinstalling) going, kept running problems (mostly network related stuff), wondering if else can me.
i got account setup godaddy, 2 domains, , bought vps (hoping have configured "copy paste" $20ish bucks).
my network guess problem, got linksys e3000 router hooked cable modem, router configured dhcp both internet , network (there no static ip residential plans), gave computer static ip. had feature dynamic dns, purchased trial , looks though gave router static ip (is related, dunno). router configured allow vpn connections, has nat enabled, spi firewall enabled, upnp enabled, remote access enabled, filter's: anynomous internet requests, multicast, internet nat redirection, ident (113)... has these options "static dns" on setup page, tried entering during latest attempt configure server 2008, add server static dns, worked, server still wasn't functioning properly... if leave these blank, when go router status, automatically filled out... in status page says router information, , device name, firmware etc... domain name , cgocable.net? thought domain name dyndns name... below router information internet connection, , auto-config; dhcp enabled, static internet address (one site dyndns), subnet mask, gateway (differs static internet address?), , 3 dns server's...
i guess how heck should configure everything, should first install active directory in forest? or domain controller? (isn't go daddy domain controller? not clear on it). dns, how set up, soa, ns, cname, a, stuff barely understand... want myprivatecloud.mygodaddywebsite.com want godaddy still have domain , thing's...
should remove router equation , plug modem directly switch instead of router? ipconfig says dns suffix .cgocable.net, going affect how setup dns?
all want domain setup can access work, want go in lab , run testing applications show them how powerful cloud is... cant seem right... why hard! :(
try setup server, active directory and hook 1 computer @ first.
building cloud heavy, built on active directory, must know how ad work. youtube offer lot of tut, or check book , such @ first.
